Colorado Springs Honda Dealer Explains: Car Safety for Pets

colorado honda dealerPlanning on hitting the road with your best bud riding shotgun? Make sure that you check out these quick tips from your local Colorado Springs Honda dealership to help your pup stay safe on your next road trip.

  • Wear him out. Take Fido on a series of walks or jogs leading up to a big trip. Your pet has energy to burn and it’s not fair to keep him cramped up in your vehicle without letting him run around first.
  • Don’t leave your pet alone in a parked vehicle. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures rise quickly this time of year.
  • Feed your pet beforeyour departure. Even if your pup handles normal car rides likes a champ, you never know how they will react to a lengthier trip. Feed them two to three smaller meals more frequently leading up to your departure.
  • Plan on a lot of trips? Think about investing in rubberized floor liners and waterproof seat covers for your Honda to keep it in pristine condition. This little tip is more for the safety of your Honda!

First Car Tips

Deciding to purchase a car for the first time is an exciting milestone, but it can be overwhelming for someone who hasn’t done it before. Just deciding what type of vehicle you want and which features are important to you can be difficult enough – and there are a lot of things to consider on top of that. We’ll give you some pointers to make your first car buying experience a good one.

Know your budget. Before you get serious about car shopping, know what kind of budget you’re working with. If you don’t have a vehicle to trade in, make sure you’ve saved money for a down payment. Break down your expenses to see what you can afford for monthly payments, and remember to consider taxes and other up-front costs.

Prioritize your wants and needs. Chances are your first car won’t be your dream car. Whether it’s seating, gas mileage, towing capability or anything else you consider a must, decide what’s most important to you. Know what your must-haves are, and know what you’re willing to sacrifice.

Take your time. Even if you need a car as soon as possible, don’t rush the decision. Use the Internet to your full advantage – research different vehicles and get a good idea what you should pay. Take time to learn about the financing process to fully prepare yourself for your purchase.

Thinking About Buying a Car From a Colorado Honda Dealership? Follow These Tips to Prepare

Freedom HondaBuying a new vehicle is a big decision for anybody. Whether this is your first time or your tenth, there are a few things to consider before even visiting a Colorado Honda dealership to test drive a vehicle. As a community-oriented dealership looking to make the car buying process simple, remember these three tips before you purchase your next vehicle.

Think about service. We’ve mentioned it before, but when you buy a vehicle from a Colorado Honda dealership, in some ways you’re also buying into their service department. While one 2012 Honda CR-V might be the same as the next, you’ll want to trust the service department you plan on taking it to. That means it’s important to do your research!

Know your credit. It’s safe to say that not many people have a few grand in cash just sitting around the house to buy a car. That’s why it’s important before beginning your vehicle search to know your credit and what kind of financing you are eligible for. How can you do this? Visit our website and get pre-approved.

Value your trade-in. Do you plan on trading in your old vehicle when you purchase a new one? This can help free up some garage space as well as save you some money on your new Honda. But before you go selling your pre-owned Honda to the first person interested, you’ll want to value your trade-in and know what it’s worth. Luckily, you can get a preliminary estimate on your vehicle’s value online.

At Freedom Honda, we try to make the car buying process enjoyable. Stay tuned to our blog for more helpful tips and news from the newest Colorado Springs Honda dealership.

Is a Colorado Springs Honda SUV Right for Your Family?

Colorado Springs Honda dealerAlthough spring isn’t officially here yet, warmer weather has arrived – and with that comes camping, float trips and vacations during a Colorado Springs summer! You’ll need a vehicle that can handle all that, and we have a wide variety of options here at your local Colorado Springs Honda dealer – Freedom Honda. But what’s the best option for you? We’ll help you find out!

Crosstour. Modeled after the Accord, the Crosstour is the perfect option for anyone who is torn between a large sedan and a crossover or SUV. Though compact, it still features the power and four-wheel drive capability that you’d expect from an SUV. And in true Accord fashion, the Crosstour delivers up to 31 highway MPG*. If it’s utility and efficiency you’re looking for over space and seating, the Crosstour is a good option for you.

CR-V. Looking for something a little more spacious? The CR-V has extra cargo space and a larger interior than the Crosstour, and the 60/40 split back row gives you added storage versatility. Despite the extra room, the CR-V is still compact enough for easy handling and impressive fuel efficiency.

Pilot. If you’ve got major plans on your summer to-do list with a big family to boot, the Pilot is the best choice. Third row seating gives you room for everyone and plenty of cargo space to spare. And the towing capacity of up to 4,500 pounds means the boat or RV can come along, too.

Sometimes the best way to figure out which option is best for you is to get behind the wheel. Stop by your Colorado Springs Honda dealership, Freedom Honda, for a test-drive!

It’s Time to Spring Clean Your Colorado Springs Honda

Freedom HondaThe weather is warming up, we have “sprung” forward and our windows are down – that means spring is here! Before you decide to hop in your Honda and hit the road for a little Colorado Springs road trip, here are a few cleaning tips to help get your Honda in tip-top shape.

Vacuum the interior – Be sure to work from the ceiling to the floor, because gravity dictates that stuff stirred up works its way downward. Also, yank out the salt-caked floor mats for a quick pass with the vacuum. Then use your HondaVac or a shop vac and a rigid tool such as a screwdriver to work dirt out of the creases.

Wash your mats – Be honest – are your floor mats just plain filthy? It’s nothing to be embarrassed about and it very common after winter. Think about it – you’re tracking leaves, mud, salt and more into your car and it is just too cold to car in the winter!

Wash everything – Yes, EVERYTHING! Windows get super foggy in the spring partially because of how dirty they are, so be sure that they are clean and clear. Obviously you need to spend some time on putting a little elbow grease into your car’s exterior. Don’t forget to take your car to a carwash AFTER you’ve given it a wash yourself. This helps eliminate anything detrimental in your undercarriage like road salt.

Check your tires – Ok, this isn’t cleaning so much as inspecting your tires wear and tear. It also goes without saying that if you have snow/winter tires on your car, it’s about time to make the switch back to summer tires.

If putting in a little elbow grease to your car just isn’t giving you the results you want, come check out the selection of new and pre-owned vehicles at your local Colorado Springs Honda dealership at Freedom Honda.

Your Colorado Honda Dealer Rates the Ridgeline

Freedom HondaHonda really got it right when it comes to the Honda Ridgeline. Described by Honda itself as a pickup that isn’t intended to be a full-size truck, but one useful to owners of its other motorized products – this truck may not be the right fit for everyone.

The Honda Ridgeline is a unique choice for Colorado Springs residents in that has a crossover-derived body. The Ridgeline is part frame, part unibody, with some of its structure shared with the Honda Pilot crossover. Pairing its unique body with its brisk acceleration and good passing response, the Ridgeline is a triple threat.

The Ridgeline has been a longtime overachiever in safety. Front side airbags, rollover-sensing side-curtain bags covering both rows, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control are included across the model line. The Ridgeline achieves top “good” ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and as a result gets a spot on the “Top Safety Pick” list.

Are you into the outdoors? Own an ATV or some Honda motorcycles and dirt bikes? Need bed space for your tools or sports equipment? Sounds to us like the Honda Ridgeline is right for you. Looking for massive towing capacity that often leads to less-than-impressive gas mileage? This is not the truck you’re looking for – but come on down to your local Colorado Springs Honda dealer at Freedom Honda and we will find a pre-owned truck that’s perfect for your needs.

A DIY Guide to Waxing Your Ride

Freedom HondaMost people don’t realize how big a role waxing plays in vehicle maintenance.  Regular waxing protects your paint from airborne contaminants, helps prevent paint from chipping, fills in minor scratches and makes washing easier. Despite all the benefits of waxing, many drivers let it fall by the wayside because it’s often perceived as time consuming and unnecessary. In truth, it only takes about an hour or so every few months to keep your car protected and looking like new. Your friends at the local Colorado Springs Honda dealer – Freedom Honda – will walk you through the process.

Choose a wax. For the best results, choose a wax that contains genuine carnauba or another natural wax. If you have trouble finding a natural wax, synthetic polymer-based waxes work as well. As a rule of thumb, remember: if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. Steer clear of any spray-on options that promise quick application, because the results won’t last as long. Trust us: you’ll be glad you put in the extra effort!

Start with a clean car. The goal is to remove anything and everything from your car’s paint, because anything that’s left will be stuck underneath the wax. After a thorough cleaning, allow your car to dry completely. If possible, try to keep it out of direct sunlight so your vehicle’s surface isn’t too hot when the time comes to apply the wax.

Wax on, wax off. Using a damp sponge, apply the wax evenly to a small section of your vehicle by rubbing in a circular motion. Let the wax sit for a few minutes until it becomes cloudy (or whatever the instructions on the wax indicate). Then, remove the wax using a clean cotton cloth and the same circular motion until the residue is removed. Continue onto the rest of your car, and then you’re finished!

Of course, if you don’t want to do it yourself, we’ll be more than happy to do it for you at your Colorado Springs Honda dealership, Freedom Honda. Bring your car in for just a wash and wax or a full detail!
