Colorado also has a child passenger safety law that requires all children 15 and under to use a child safety seat or seat belt at all times. Infants must ride in a rear facing safety seat until they are 1 year old and at least 20 pounds.
Children ages 1-4 that weigh 20 to 40 pounds must be in a forward facing child safety seat. Children who weigh over 40 pounds or at least 4 years old, must be in a child booster seat. When the child turns 8, they must be wearing a seat belt until they turn 15 years old.
Summer is a dangerous time to drive for everyone because of there are more teens on the road, more road trips, more tire blow outs, more construction, and other hazards. In 2014, seat belts saved approximately 13,000 lives.
Seat belts save lives by keeping occupants inside of the vehicle during a crash and restraining the strongest parts of the body. It also spreads out any force from the collision and helps the body slow down. Seat belts also protect your brain and spinal cord, two very critical parts of the body.
