changing car windshieldIt seems that the little things in life can ruin our day just as fast as the big things. Spilling our expensive coffee drink, leaving a purse or wallet at home or forgetting to buy bread at the store can really sour our mood. One thing that is guaranteed to cause a bad mood is debris damaging our windshield. From a flying rock on the highway to a falling tree branch, damage to our windshields is unfortunately a common occurrence. Should you find yourself with a damaged windshield, be sure to follow Freedom Honda’s advice on what to do:

The first and most important thing to remember is to not just ignore it. This is especially true if the rock chip or crash impairs your line of sight. It can be easy to just live with it; however, by not addressing it immediately, you run the risk of the chip becoming larger. The general rule of thumb is to not a drive a vehicle with a chip bigger than a quarter and a crack longer than twelve inches. Also, ignoring it can cause your windshield’s glass to become weakened, putting it at risk to potentially shatter.  Next, be sure to contact your insurance agent. While it depends on your policy, you may not have to pay anything out of pocket for a windshield repair or replacement! So once you get it replaced, how can you avoid damage to your windshield? While life is unpredictable, here are some ways to reduce the chance of windshield damage:

  • Avoid parking under trees
  • If possible, park in a garage or covered area if…..
  • Don’t follow rock/concrete trucks too closely
  • Use caution when driving on roadways surrounded by rocky, bluffs
