Freedom Honda Gives Back to the Community

At Freedom Honda, we are proud to be members of the Colorado Springs community. That’s why we take any chance we can to give back to the area that supports our dealership. We firmly believe that we all can have a meaningful impact on our communities. Even the smallest contributions have the power to enact change that can make the world a better place to live for us all.

Last October, we held our annual Children’s Mental Health Drive, an event dedicated to supporting the younger generations of our community. At the end of that month, we were able to raise $21,000 for the Pediatric Mental Health Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Did you know that one in five children experiences mental illness? This fact has been a contributor to the 58% increase in suicides in the past three years. Suicide has now become the leading cause of death in teens in Colorado. Unfortunately, the state does not have enough resources to properly address the problem.

That’s where the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) at Children’s Hospital Colorado comes in. They are a nonprofit organization that is well known for providing state-of-the-art mental health care services for children, adolescents, and their families. This group is dedicated not only to training the next generation of health care professionals but also to conducting research that can aid those who are struggling—or know someone who is struggling—with their mental health.

Bret Petersen, the owner of Freedom Honda, had this to say about the organization:

“Children’s Colorado has an excellent reputation. So the fact that they have a dedicated pediatric mental health facility tells me they’re going to make a difference, and we want to be a part of that.”

Because PMHI is a nonprofit, they rely heavily on donations from community members such as Freedom Honda.

Our annual Children’s Mental Health Drive took place throughout the month of October. The specific purpose of this drive was to raise funds for PMHI. With the way our drive was designed, new prospective Honda owners would be able to contribute to Freedom Honda’s philanthropic efforts from October 1 to the 31. With every new or pre-owned vehicle purchased during this time, we donated $100 to the charity, for a total of $21,000.
