New Year’s Driving Resolutions to Take in 2017

January 4th, 2017 by

Happy 2017, Freedom Honda fans! Now that all the fun of New Year’s Eve is over, it’s time to start thinking about all of the things you want to accomplish in your life this year.  Here at Freedom Honda, our goal is to go above and beyond for our customers even more frequently. On a personal level, we know many members of our staff are looking to become healthier in 2017. While these are all great goals, there’s one resolution for 2017 that all of us need to be taking – becoming better drivers in 2017. Here are some small changes you can make it to stay safe on the roads in 2017:

Put the phone down. We can’t stress this enough: using your phone while driving is not only illegal in some circumstances, it is incredibly dangerous. Taking your eyes off the road – even for a moment – can have catastrophic results. That call, text, or social network alert can wait.

Wear Your Seat Belt.  It was reported that as recently as September, LESS people were wearing their seat belts in Colorado than in the past. Not wearing a seat belt while driving is incredibly reckless and seat belt usage going down is unacceptable. Next time you get behind the wheel or into a vehicle, make sure to buckle in. The three seconds it takes to put on your seat belt could save your life. Additionally, if you happen to be in the car with others, be sure to speak up when they don’t wear their seat belt.

Slow Down.  Speeding always seems like it’s not a big deal… until it is. Speed limits exist for a reason, and by breaking them, you are increasing your risk of a crash. Stay safe – and save money on traffic tickets – by being aware of how fast you are driving and obey the posted speed limit.

Remember The Little Things. It can be easy to establish a couple bad driving habits here and there. Not using your turn signal. Tailgating the car in front of you. Not making a completely stop at stop signs. These small, everyday habits could potentially lead to an accident. Next time you drive, be sure to become more aware of these small habits and be intentional about establishing new, safe habits.

Here at Freedom Honda, our mission is to ensure you drive a quality vehicle to get you where you’re going, but that doesn’t mean anything if you don’t get there safely. This year, take these basic driving safety principles to heart. By implementing these small steps, you will greatly reduce your risks of being involved in a crash. Make the change today and stay safe
